The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscars) has revealed the shortlists for 10 categories. Two documentary films produced in collaboration with Ukraine, "Porcelain War" and "Once Upon a Time in Ukraine," have made the list. Details

"Porcelain War" (Porcelain War) was created in collaboration with the USA, Ukraine, and Australia. The film is directed by American Brendan Bellomo and Ukrainian Slava Leontyev, who is also one of the main characters.

This documentary tells the story of three artists from Kharkiv who remain in the frontline city despite the looming threat of encirclement and capture by Russian forces. In the face of danger, they fill the city with art: crafting porcelain figurines to adorn homes destroyed by Russian shelling.

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2024, where it won the Grand Jury Prize for documentary films. It has already garnered 37 awards and 27 nominations at international film festivals.

The short film "Once Upon a Time in Ukraine" (Once upon a Time in Ukraine), directed by Betsy West, depicts the lives of children in wartime and has made the shortlist for "Best Documentary Short Film." This film was produced in collaboration between Ukraine and the USA.
