On Friday, December 20, around 11:50 PM, in the village of Blagodatnoye, Arbuzinsky District, a driver of a VAZ 2110 struck a 22-year-old pedestrian on Stepnaya Street.
This information was reported by the Communication Department of the Nikolaev Regional Police.
As a result of the traffic accident, the 22-year-old victim sustained injuries that led to his death at the scene.
The driver of the car fled the scene.
During the initial investigative and operational activities, officers from the Criminal Police of the First Department of the Pervomaisky District, with the assistance of forensic analysts from the regional police headquarters, located the driver not far from where the accident occurred.
Upon medical examination, the man was found to have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.7 per mille.
In connection with this incident, investigators initiated criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which addresses “Violation of traffic safety rules or operation of transport by individuals driving under the influence, resulting in the death of the victim.” The penalty for this offense can include up to ten years in prison, along with a driving ban for a period of five to ten years.
Investigators detained the driver in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He has now been formally notified of his suspicion in committing the crime.
