In Dnipro, the court has imposed a preventive measure on a minor passenger of a BMW that collided with a Ford on December 1, resulting in the death of a 10-year-old girl. The 17-year-old boy has been placed under house arrest.
This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
"At the request of the Western District Prosecutor's Office of Dnipro, a preventive measure in the form of round-the-clock house arrest for 60 days has been chosen for the 17-year-old passenger of the BMW," the statement says.
The minor passenger is suspected of committing a criminal offense for failing to assist a person in a life-threatening condition.
According to the sanctions of the article for such a crime, the punishment may include restriction of freedom for a period of three to five years or imprisonment for two to five years.
Recall that on December 1, a fatal accident occurred in the area of Naberezhna Zavodska Street in Dnipro. Preliminary data suggests that the driver of the BMW was unable to avoid a collision with the Ford, which was making a U-turn.
Later, the police announced suspicions against the 19-year-old driver of the BMW who caused the fatal crash. As a result of the accident, a 10-year-old passenger in the Ford lost her life.
The court has imposed a preventive measure in the form of detention without the right to bail for the BMW driver.
At the same time, earlier information emerged online suggesting that the BMW belonged to the 17-year-old boy, who was indeed behind the wheel at the time of the accident.
In particular, numerous videos on his social media show that he does not hide the fact of speeding while driving. It is also known that, at 17, he does not have the legal right to drive.
Previously, he was involved in an accident: in the summer, at a pedestrian crossing, he hit two teenagers with his black BMW and fled the scene. He was allegedly detained later, and a criminal case was opened. However, he was never punished.
Nevertheless, according to law enforcement, it was not he but his 19-year-old friend who was driving.
The police released the route of the BMW. According to photographs, the 17-year-old boy was in the passenger seat.
