The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden is planning to provide Ukraine with a new military aid package worth $725 million. This was reported by Reuters, as conveyed by UNN.

Details

This move is part of efforts to support Kyiv before Biden's presidential term ends in January. According to sources close to the plan, the package will include a variety of weapons aimed at deterring the advance of Russian troops. Among the expected supplies are:

  • anti-tank weapons,
  • mines,
  • drones,
  • Stinger missiles,
  • ammunition for HIMARS systems,
  • cluster munitions that can be used in GMLRS rockets.

It is anticipated that the official notification to the U.S. Congress regarding this package will be submitted as early as Monday. However, the content and size of the aid may change by the time the document is signed by Joe Biden.

The contents and size of the package may fluctuate in the coming days prior to Biden's expected signature.

This package will represent the largest utilization of presidential authority (Presidential Drawdown Authority, PDA) for the emergency allocation of weapons from U.S. stockpiles. Previously, such packages typically ranged from $125-250 million, but Biden now has access to an additional $4-5 billion in PDA approved by Congress.

Recall

The Biden administration has $6.5 billion available for transferring weapons to Ukraine, but may not be able to utilize it all before the end of the term. The Pentagon has reached its monthly supply limit and is facing logistical challenges.
