Further modernization of border crossing points on Ukraine's western border is scheduled for this year.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal announced this during a government meeting.
“Last year, we approved the Strategy for the Development of Border Infrastructure with the EU and Moldova until 2030. It includes the reconstruction of 28 border crossing points and the construction of at least 6 new ones,” Shmyhal stated.
According to him, negotiations are ongoing regarding joint customs and border control at the EU border.
“We expect the first results as early as this year. The European Commission is currently assessing our potential agreement with Poland. Once technical issues are resolved, we will be able to use this developed model for our other EU member neighbors,” the Prime Minister explained.
Shmyhal mentioned that Ukraine will also continue to expand and improve the queue system at border crossings in 2025.
“In just over 2 years, we have recorded nearly 1.6 million border crossings through this system. Every day, thousands of trucks and buses utilize this system, which reduces their waiting time at the border. Our goal is to make border crossing as quick and convenient as possible for citizens and businesses,” the Prime Minister shared.
Background. Previously, Mind reported that new border crossing points for freight and passenger transport will be opened in the Transcarpathian region to assist businesses and alleviate existing traffic.
