In his opinion, the key issue is that this should not be a trap, where the Russians allowed the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to penetrate so they could later strike; that would be the most dangerous scenario. However, if this is not the case, then Ukrainian troops have indeed caught the enemy off guard and are establishing a foothold.
It is crucial, the expert emphasizes, for the AFU to have air cover because while electronic warfare is beneficial, it is insufficient. MiGs, F-16s, and precision air-to-ground strikes must be operational to prevent the enemy from closing in and to block our personnel.
“In my view, based on my reflections, this appears to be reconnaissance by combat and not the main strike. What has been executed is likely just that. There should be another strike somewhere else; there must be something else. If it all remains as it is, I don’t know how to comment on it. I don’t understand why? Because there is currently no movement,” concludes Oleg Starikov.
