In light of the scandal regarding the procurement of low-quality ammunition by the Ministry of Defense, a draft resolution has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada for the dismissal of the head of the department, Rustem Umerov.
This was reported on the VRU website.
The author of the resolution is MP Oleksiy Honcharenko. “Umerov must resign... After his dismissal, there should be criminal cases. Ideally, specific sentences,” stated the deputy.
Previously, Ukrainian publications wrote that soldiers were complaining about the quality of the 120-mm mines produced by “Ukroboronprom.” According to the defenders, the ammunition either fails to detonate or does not reach its targets.
On November 26, the Ministry of Defense informed that they have been investigating the causes of the malfunctioning of the 120-mm mines for three weeks. “Currently, the Ministry of Defense has suspended the use of the specified batches of ammunition in the Defense Forces, as well as their issuance to combat units until the causes of the malfunction are determined,” the statement said. The ministry added that military personnel will be supplied with imported mines.
The Ministry noted that they are the customer of this type of weaponry for the Defense Forces. The contractor for the state order is the Ministry of Strategic Industries.
