Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine in Zhytomyr uncovered the management of a company that produces heating boilers and convectors selling heating systems for the needs of the Russian Ministry of Defense. The company began collaborating with the enemy during the full-scale war, reported the press center of the agency on Saturday, February 1.
Investigators found that the scheme was organized by the head of the company's sales department. Since May 2022, the Ukrainian manufacturer had been covertly selling products to Russian companies that collaborate with the Russian government.
According to data from the Office of the Attorney General, in order to avoid sanctions, the individuals involved established a scheme for transferring heating equipment through intermediary firms in Moldova, Belarus, and Kazakhstan.
“The end recipient was a Russian company in Belgorod, which subsequently supplied the products to Russian institutions, including the temporary detention center for foreign citizens under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation; a sanatorium of the Russian Ministry of Health, where Russian military personnel involved in the so-called 'SVO' undergo rehabilitation,” the statement reads.
Through this scheme, the individuals transferred several wholesale batches of Ukrainian heating systems worth 65 million UAH to Russia.
During searches at the address of the manufacturing company and at the home of the scheme organizer, mobile phones, computers, and documents containing evidence of the crimes were discovered.
The head of the sales department of the Zhytomyr company has been notified of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 111-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (aiding a state aggressor). He is currently in custody without the right to bail. He faces up to 12 years in prison with asset confiscation.
The investigation is ongoing to hold all participants in the scheme accountable, including the wife of the suspect, who is the owner of the Zhytomyr enterprise.
