Zelensky: "Ending the war in Ukraine should be a victory for Trump, not for Putin."

Long-term security guarantees for Ukraine could come from NATO membership or peacekeeping forces.
Зеленский: «Завершение войны в Украине должно стать победой для Трампа, а не для Путина».

President Donald Trump of the United States has the potential to achieve peace in Ukraine; however, such peace will only be feasible if Washington provides Kyiv with long-term security guarantees.

Source. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with Bloomberg.

Zelensky urged to prevent a scenario where, after a temporary ceasefire, dictator Putin resumes military actions, having gained time to rearm and re-equip his army.

“I believe the most dangerous thing – and, by the way, not only for President Trump, but for me and all Ukrainians – is if he manages to conduct this agreement in such a way that Putin will have the opportunity to return,” said Zelensky. “The technical possibility, you understand, not just in words. He will promise a lot to President Trump, and even for the sake of meeting him, he will go to great lengths.”

In Zelensky's view, such long-term security guarantees for Ukraine could be NATO membership or the presence of Western peacekeeping forces in the country.

If such a contingent is sent, it should include the United States, according to Zelensky.

“This cannot be viewed as a purely European initiative without the United States. This is what Putin constantly wants,” he stated.

“The issue of ending the war in Ukraine should be, I believe, a victory for Trump, not for Putin. And Putin is nobody to him,” Zelensky said in an interview with Bloomberg. “And America is much stronger. And Europe is much stronger. China is much stronger than Russia. All of these are players. And during our war, everyone saw that Russia is incapable of occupying Ukraine.”

Background. Recall that the day before, in Davos, President Zelensky stated that “if Putin returns – he will certainly come back with an army ten times larger than the 200,000 at the beginning of 2022, as it is already four times larger.”

To avoid such a scenario, he mentioned the security guarantees that must be provided to Ukraine: NATO membership, the deployment of long-range weapons in Ukraine, and the presence of military contingents from allied countries.
