Vladimir Zelensky responded to the German Chancellor's call to the Russian dictator Putin. According to the president, Scholz has opened the "Pandora's box."
He stated this during his evening video address.
Zelensky mentioned that Scholz had warned him about his intention to call the Russian dictator. "Now there may be other conversations, other calls. Just a lot of words. And this is exactly what Putin has long wanted: it is extremely important for him to weaken his isolation. The isolation of Russia. And to conduct negotiations, ordinary negotiations, which will lead to nothing," the president pointed out.
He added that the Kremlin dictator has been doing this for decades, allowing Russia to change nothing in its policies overall. This ultimately led to the war.
"We understand all these challenges now. We know how to act. And we want to warn: there will be no 'Minsk-3', we need real peace," Zelensky declared.
Additionally, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reacted to the German Chancellor's phone call to Putin, stating that "conversations with the Russian dictator do not bring any added value for achieving a just peace."
"Concrete strong actions are needed to compel him to peace, rather than pleas and attempts at appeasement, which he perceives as a sign of weakness and uses for his own purposes. The specific actions are known – and that is primarily the withdrawal of the occupier's troops from the territory of Ukraine," the ministry stated.
