Employees of the State Bureau of Investigations (DBR) have reported suspicions of abuse of office and misappropriation of weapons against the deputy commander of the 110th separate mechanized brigade. Since January 2024, he has been "earning" from soldiers who did not want to serve.
This was reported by the Bureau's press service.
For half of their salary, such individuals could avoid appearing for duty. Additionally, some of them were periodically granted combat payments. According to the investigation, at least four people regularly utilized such "services." The losses to the state caused by the improperly paid salaries to these soldiers amount to over 2.2 million UAH.
The number of participants in the scheme could reach dozens of individuals. The deputy commander was exposed by one of his subordinates, who took a bag containing 1.5 million UAH from him and handed it over to law enforcement. In retaliation, the deputy commander attempted to blackmail the subordinate and filed documents claiming that the subordinate had allegedly deserted the military unit with weapons.
On December 27, 2024, DBR employees conducted searches at the suspect's residence and that of his family, seizing an automatic weapon linked to the case against the subordinate, as well as cash in various currencies totaling over 5 million UAH. The investigation is also looking into the deputy commander's involvement in the embezzlement of food and other property within the brigade.
The suspect faces up to 15 years in prison. A preventive measure has been chosen for him – detention without the possibility of bail.
