On the evening of November 25, two individuals lost their lives on Shandor Petefi Street in the village of Barkasovo, Berehiv district. A 60-year-old resident died in a fire, while his 65-year-old neighbor suffered a heart attack due to distress. The police have initiated two criminal proceedings.
As reported by the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Transcarpathian region, the fire occurred in a house where an 89-year-old woman lived, taking care of her 60-year-old son with disabilities. In the evening, she lit the stove and dozed off, and when she woke up, the entire extension was already filled with smoke.
The fire was first noticed by a neighbor, who called the emergency services. The woman became so distressed that she died from a heart attack. The fire was extinguished in less than an hour.
“At the scene of the fire, rescuers found the body of a 60-year-old man. The flames damaged the ceilings and roof over an area of 40 m2, as well as household items,” the State Emergency Service reported.
On Wednesday, November 27, police in the Transcarpathian region informed ZAXID.NET that following the events in Barkasovo, two criminal proceedings were opened under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, marked as “accident” and “natural death.”
