Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, border protection authorities have recorded 40,500 protocols against citizens who illegally crossed or attempted to cross the border. During the same period, nearly 1,500 Ukrainians received convictions in court cases related to evasion of mobilization. This was reported by Slidstvo.Info on Tuesday, January 7.
“From February 24, 2022, to December 23, 2024, for the administrative offense stipulated by Article 204-1 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses ‘Illegal crossing or attempted illegal crossing of the state border of Ukraine,’ border protection authorities have drawn up 40,500 protocols concerning individuals,” the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine responded to journalists' inquiries.
This includes administrative liability in the form of fines ranging from two hundred to five hundred non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens (from 3,400 to 8,500 UAH).
“Slidstvo.Info” notes that citizens can also face criminal liability for illegal border crossing or attempts to do so. The State Judicial Administration reported that during 2022 – 2023, 34 individuals were convicted under Article 332-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal crossing of the state border).
Additionally, 96 Ukrainians received convictions under Article 335 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (evasion of conscription for compulsory military service, military service for commissioned officers).
Moreover, for evasion of conscription during mobilization in 2022 – 2023, 1,490 people were sentenced. Such an offense is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 3 to 5 years.
According to the Romanian Territorial Inspection of Border Police, from February 2022 to May 2024, Romanian border guards detained about 11,000 Ukrainian men. Additionally, 19 Ukrainians died while attempting to swim across the Tisza River or froze in the high-altitude Carpathians.
