Twins have been discharged from the Lviv Regional Perinatal Center, being the first in Ukraine to be born through the state program for assisted reproductive technologies. The happy parents named their children Matviy and Yustyna.

“Ihor and Iryna from Horodok dreamed of having children for a long time. Their journey was challenging, but they believed, sought opportunities, and were among the first to participate in the state program. Now they hold their happiness in their arms. May the little ones grow up healthy, happy, and under a peaceful Ukrainian sky,”wrote Maxim Kozytskyi, the head of Lviv OVA, on January 29.

The dream of the couple to become parents was realized by the specialists at the Lviv Regional Perinatal Center, thanks to the state program for assisted reproductive technologies under the Medical Guarantees Program. These are the first children born through this program, and since March 2024, 250 couples in Lviv region have taken advantage of this opportunity.

The Lviv Perinatal Center is the first municipal institution in Ukraine where a department for assisted reproductive technologies has been operating for two years. All necessary equipment for this department was purchased with funds from the regional budget and the Center's own resources. The perinatal center has established a complete cycle of assistance for couples – from pregnancy planning to childbirth and pediatric follow-up for the children.

Over the past 10 years, the birth rate in Ukraine has fallen by nearly 40%. The full-scale war has exacerbated the demographic crisis. Despite these challenges, more than 4,900 children were born at the Lviv Regional Perinatal Center last year. This is almost 6% more than in 2023.
