On Sunday, November 17, the final match of the ATP Finals 2024 took place in Turin, featuring Italian Jannik Sinner and American Taylor Fritz. There was no suspense – the world number one easily defeated the fifth seed, claiming the coveted trophy.
ATP Finals 2024, Final
Jannik Sinner (ATP No. 1) – Taylor Fritz (ATP No. 5) – 6:4, 6:4
This was the fifth encounter between the two competitors – Sinner has now secured his fourth victory in their head-to-head matches. The match lasted 1 hour and 23 minutes. The Italian recorded 14 aces and no double faults, converting 2 out of 6 break points. In contrast, the American hit 8 aces but committed 2 double faults.
It’s worth noting that this was Sinner's second consecutive ATP Finals final – he lost to Novak Djokovic in the decisive match in 2023. For Taylor, reaching this final was the first of his career.
Interestingly, Sinner won all five matches at the ATP Finals and became the first player since 1986 to not drop a single set on his way to the trophy. As a result, the Italian will receive increased prize money for the title – $4,881,500.
According to Opta, 23-year-old Sinner became the youngest player in the last 23 years to win the ATP Finals championship. In 2001, Australian Lleyton Hewitt claimed the title at the age of 20. Additionally, Sinner is only the third player in history to win the Australian Open, US Open, and ATP Finals in the same season – a feat previously achieved by Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Overall, the victory over Fritz marked Sinner's 70th win of the current season.
