Vinnychenka Street in Lviv has been fully reopened for vehicle traffic.

The main street with heavy traffic was blocked for nearly three years.
У Львове полностью открыли для проезда улицу Винниченко.

After nearly three years of closure, Vynnychenka Street in the center of Lviv has been reopened for vehicular traffic. The section, where the Lviv Regional Military Administration and the regional council are located, was closed at the beginning of the full-scale invasion supposedly for security reasons. This restriction was meant to remain in place until the end of martial law. The blocked section of Vynnychenka Street caused significant traffic jams from Mytna Square to Pidvalna Street, which both public transport and regular vehicles had to navigate.

The road was reopened on the evening of Monday, January 6. The first to announce this was Oleg Radyk, an advisor to the head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.

“Traffic on Vynnychenka is now free for all types of vehicles. The issue of parking regulations is being addressed,” – Oleg Radyk wrote on Telegram.

A journalist from ZAXID.NET observed a truck from TOV “Shlyakhovyk-T” removing construction concrete blocks that had obstructed the street at 8:30 PM. Currently, vehicles have not yet started using this section of the street, as drivers have grown accustomed to its closure.

It is worth noting that restricted traffic on Vynnychenka Street near buildings No. 14-18 was implemented on March 10, 2022, by order of the head of the Lviv Military Administration. As reported by the Lviv Regional Military Administration in response to an information request from ZAXID.NET, the restriction was intended to last until the end of martial law “to ensure the proper execution of functions and powers of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.”

Passage was allowed only for officials, military personnel, and emergency services with special permits. Checkpoints and security personnel were stationed at the entrances to these administrative buildings to verify passes. The closure of this section complicated traffic on the adjacent Pidvalna Street and Mytna Square, where a lot of public and private transport operates, leading to congestion. In the summer of 2023, residents of Lviv created a petition to open this section of Vynnychenka Street for traffic. Additionally, the Lviv City Council insisted on reopening the street, claiming that the Lviv Regional Military Administration had not coordinated such changes with them. However, the Lviv Regional Military Administration consistently explained the need for the closure of Vynnychenka Street due to security concerns.

Officially, the Lviv Regional Military Administration has not yet announced the reopening of this section of the street.
