The Verkhovna Rada has adopted a bill aimed at promoting the development of volunteering among students. A total of 298 deputies voted "in favor."

Member of Parliament Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported this information.

According to him, the following changes will occur after the law is passed:

  1. Volunteering in a specific field will be counted as practical experience;
  2. Organizations may issue documents confirming participation in volunteer activities;
  3. Volunteer experience will become part of the motivation letter for admission to educational institutions;
  4. Leaders will be required to support volunteer initiatives among students.

The aim of the bill is to adapt Ukrainian legislation to European Union law regarding the recognition of volunteer activity results, to foster a culture of social responsibility in society, especially among children and youth, and to increase the proportion of society engaged in volunteering.

The bill proposes amendments to the laws "On Complete General Secondary Education," "On Higher Education," "On Education," and "On Volunteer Activities," specifically regarding:

  • ensuring the right of volunteers to have their competencies acquired during volunteer activities recognized in accordance with the procedures established for the recognition of non-formal and informal education results;
  • establishing the obligation of the head of the educational institution to promote the development of volunteering among participants in the educational process;
  • claring the volunteer's right to count the time spent on volunteer activities towards practical experience regardless of the educational institution's consent;
  • making documentary confirmation of volunteer activities mandatory;
  • defining the concept of "motivation letter."
