The Lutsk City District Court has sentenced 21-year-old Oleksiy Tokarsky, who defrauded over fifty people. The accused sold non-existent military gear on social media. Once the victims sent him money, he would stop responding to messages or block them. For his actions, he was sentenced to 4 years and 3 months in prison.
According to the verdict issued on December 10, in June 2022, Oleksiy Tokarsky created a Facebook page intended for selling military uniforms, equipment, and gear. Since then, he accepted orders and payments from buyers but never delivered the goods. Overall, from June to December 2022, the accused defrauded 66 people out of 300,000 UAH.
Investigators revealed that Oleksiy Tokarsky received the victims' money on his friends' bank cards, who were unaware of his scheme. He told them that he couldn't open his own bank account due to passport issues, thus asking to use their cards. The money he received was used for his personal expenses and to top up a gaming account with one of the betting companies.
Judge Yaroslav Artysh found Oleksiy Tokarsky guilty of fraud committed under martial law, causing significant harm to the victims (part 3 of article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and sentenced him to 4 years and 3 months in prison. The decision can still be appealed in the appellate court.
