British military experts are working to determine who may have launched several drones near three military bases in the UK, which host the United States Air Force.
According to the BBC, around 60 personnel from the Royal Air Force are involved in the investigation.
Last week, drones were spotted in the vicinity of the Lakenheath and Mildenhall bases in Suffolk County, as well as near the Feltwell base in neighboring Norfolk.
Following this, the military recorded a new incursion of additional drones the previous night.
According to the U.S. Air Force, these devices were small in size and very numerous. A U.S. Air Force spokesperson stated that the drone flights “did not affect local residents or infrastructure, and the devices were not identified as hostile.”
However, the BBC reports that the military is concerned that the drone flights may be linked to “some foreign state.”
There are no details on who might be involved in the drone flights. Nevertheless, in recent months, British intelligence has indicated that Russia is expanding its diversionary operations against Western countries supporting Ukraine.
The Mildenhall base hosts American refueling aircraft, while Lakenheath is home to American F-35A and F-15E fighters. The Feltwell base primarily supports military logistics.
Background. A few days ago, it was reported that unidentified drones were spotted over U.S. air bases in the UK, but it was not determined whether the unmanned devices should be considered hostile.
