The temporarily suspended President of South Korea, Yoon Suk-yeol, has barricaded himself in his residence and refuses to comply with an arrest warrant. Barbed wire has been installed around the residence, and access is blocked by vehicles. This was reported by CNN and Reuters on Wednesday, January 8.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, January 7, the Western District Court of Seoul issued a renewed arrest warrant for Yoon Suk-yeol to interrogate him regarding his declaration of a state of emergency in early December. The chief prosecutor of the anti-corruption agency promised that law enforcement would make more decisive efforts to apprehend Yoon.

The following day, January 8, supporters of Yoon Suk-yeol gathered near the presidential residence to protest these actions. The lawyer for the temporarily suspended South Korean president stated that the arrest warrant is illegal, as it was issued by a court lacking proper jurisdiction, and the attorney general does not have the authority to investigate a sitting leader.

It is worth noting that on January 3, investigators from the Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) attempted to detain Yoon Suk-yeol but were forced to retreat after a six-hour standoff with military security at the presidential complex.

As reported by ZAXID.NET, on December 14, the South Korean parliament, on its second attempt, declared impeachment against President Yoon Suk-yeol in response to his announcement of a state of emergency in the country on December 3. The state of emergency was lifted six hours after its declaration, and the president was accused of attempting a coup.

On December 9, Yoon Suk-yeol was banned from leaving the country due to an investigation concerning treason and other charges related to his declaration of a state of emergency.

At the end of December, the Seoul court issued an arrest warrant for South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol for ignoring all three summons to appear for questioning in the investigation. Law enforcement is attempting to interrogate the president, particularly regarding charges of leading a rebellion – a crime punishable by life imprisonment or even death.
