At a recent plenary session of the Kyiv City Council, deputies backed an appeal to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine regarding the need for legislative changes to eliminate discrimination in the one-time monetary assistance payments to the families of fallen servicemen. Social justice for the families of the fallen Defenders of Ukraine is a duty of the state, not just a legal norm.
This was stated by Valeriy Dubil, chairman of the "Batkivshchyna" party in Kyiv, first deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Health Issues, and deputy to Yulia Tymoshenko.
“The families of our Heroes should not be divided by the date of their loss. Everyone who gave their life for Ukraine since 2014 did so in the fight for our independence, and their families deserve equal support. The current situation, where payments to the families of those who died before February 24, 2022, amount to 1.3-2 million UAH, while families of those who died after this date receive 15 million UAH, is unjust. The Kyiv City Council is appealing to parliament to eliminate this discrimination and establish equal social guarantees for all families of our Defenders,” emphasized Valeriy Dubil.
He stressed that the Kyiv City Council supports bills No. 9166-1 and No. 9166, which propose amendments to the Budget Code and legislative acts to regulate this issue at the state level. “This is a matter of justice and state responsibility. Therefore, our team insists that the Verkhovna Rada considers and passes the relevant legislative changes as soon as possible to restore justice and adequately support the families of our Heroes,” added Valeriy Dubil.
Kyiv notes that supporting military personnel and their families is one of the priorities. "My colleagues and I in parliament will continue to work on initiatives that will strengthen the social protection of Ukraine's Defenders and their families," he said.
