On November 14, 2024, the High Anti-Corruption Court (VAKS) announced a guilty verdict against a member of the Ukrainian Parliament of the IX convocation, who was caught offering an unlawful benefit to the head of the State Agency for Restoration and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine.

The SAP press service reports this.

“The court took into account the evidence collected during the pre-trial investigation by NABU detectives and SAP prosecutors, and found the deputy guilty of committing a crime as stipulated in part 4 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” the statement reads.

According to the court's ruling, the deputy was sentenced to 8 years in prison with property confiscation and a three-year ban on holding certain positions.

It is emphasized that the VAKS verdict can be appealed within 30 days in the appellate court.

Recall that on September 18, 2024, Odarchenko failed to appear at the court hearing. He did not inform the court and the prosecutor of the reasons for his absence. The defendant's lawyers also could not inform the court about their client's whereabouts and emphasized the lack of communication with him.

On September 19, 2024, VAKS granted the SAP prosecutor's request and declared Odarchenko wanted at the national and international levels.

“After being declared wanted, the court issued a resolution to conduct special court proceedings. Despite the fact that the trial would continue in absentia, the accused was given the opportunity to participate in court sessions via video conference, provide testimony, and even speak during the court debates and give his final statement,” SAP added.
