A new shelter has been opened at the Tuzly School in the Odesa region, with nearly 1 million UAH spent on its setup. The funds were raised through the charitable platform United24, reports the Ministry of Education and Science (MON).
The fundraising and construction of the shelter took 6 months. Thanks to this shelter, over 200 students from six villages in the community will be able to attend classes in person, allowing for a full educational process to continue in a safe environment, even during air raid alerts.
“In total, more than 456 million UAH have been raised by United24 and the Office of Partnerships and Interaction of the MON for the reconstruction of 4 schools and the establishment of 12 shelters. The first of these – the new shelter at Tuzly School is already operational,” said Yevhen Kudriavets, the First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.
This year, the government allocated 7.5 billion UAH from the state budget for the construction of underground schools. Seventy underground schools are being built in frontline and border regions.
According to the MON, the necessary amount for the shelter was raised thanks to tennis player and United24 ambassador Elina Svitolina and the company "AVT Bavaria," which made the largest contribution of 850,000 UAH.
