Law enforcement officials have reported suspicions against two detained individuals involved in the murder of a military serviceman from the TCK and SP in Pyryatyn. The suspects were apprehended a few hours after fleeing the scene, as stated by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General on Sunday, February 2.
According to the investigation, on January 31, a 36-year-old mobilized resident of Lubny, heading to the 199 training center in Zhytomyr Oblast with other mobilized individuals under military escort, plotted to evade military service and conspired with an acquaintance from Lubny to escape. It is reported that the resident of Poltava called the Lubny resident multiple times to inform him of the bus route for the conscripts.
“When the bus stopped at a gas station in Pyryatyn, the Lubny resident shot one of the escorts with a rifle he had brought with him, inflicting a gunshot wound on the serviceman that was incompatible with life. Subsequently, he seized the victim's assault rifle and, along with his accomplice, fled the scene,” – reported the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Law enforcement officers apprehended the fugitives a few hours later – a special operation called “Siren” was initiated in Poltava Oblast in cooperation with the military. During searches, the shooter was found to possess two hand grenade bodies, the hunting rifle he used, as well as ammunition, a balaclava, and mobile phones. The assault rifle of the deceased serviceman, which was stolen by the resident of Poltava, was discovered in a forested area.
The Lubny resident who attacked the TCK serviceman has been charged under Part 1 of Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (interference with the lawful activities of the Armed Forces), Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional murder), and Part 3 of Article 262 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (theft of firearms). His accomplice, a resident of Poltava, has been charged under Part 5 of Article 27 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and Part 1 of Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (aiding and abetting in interference with the lawful activities of the Armed Forces).
The maximum penalty for each of the charges is 15 years of imprisonment. Currently, the issue of choosing preventive measures for them is being resolved.
It is worth noting that on February 2, regarding the murder of a serviceman in Poltava Oblast, as well as the explosion at the Rivne regional TCK, the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykhailo Drapaty, reacted by calling it a “red line that must not be crossed” and urged the authorities to respond harshly. According to the commander, without just punishment for those responsible for attacks, Ukraine will face even more military casualties in the rear.
