In Vinnytsia, law enforcement officials detained a resident of the Odesa region for attempting to smuggle three conscripted men abroad. This was reported on Tuesday, November 12, by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the defense sector of the Southern region and the National Police.
According to investigators, a 54-year-old resident of Odesa proposed to a friend to arrange the transportation of three conscripted men across the border outside official checkpoints. The organizer demanded eight thousand dollars from each draft dodger.
“The friend, having found two more men of draft age, allegedly expressed a desire to use the offered service and subsequently acted under the control of law enforcement agencies,” the message from the Specialized Prosecutor's Office stated.
On Friday, November 8, the Odesa resident was apprehended in one of the hotel complexes in Vinnytsia after he received 24 thousand dollars for smuggling the draft dodgers.
The detained individual was charged with organizing the illegal transportation of people across the state border of Ukraine (part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The maximum penalty prescribed by the article is imprisonment for up to nine years and confiscation of property. Currently, the court has chosen a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention with the right to post bail in the amount of 1 million 278 thousand UAH.
It is worth noting that in Kharkiv region, the head of the military medical commission of one of the district military enlistment and social support centers was exposed for assisting 15 conscripted men to leave the country.
