The federal court in Boston sentenced American serviceman Jack Teixeira to 15 years in prison for disclosing classified Pentagon information. This was reported by the Associated Press on November 13.
On Tuesday, November 12, a trial took place in Boston for American serviceman Jack Teixeira, who was accused of leaking classified Pentagon data concerning Russia's war against Ukraine. The judge noted that this was one of the most significant leaks in American history.
It is known that the former 22-year-old member of the National Guard of the Air Force, Jack Teixeira, gained access to classified materials, which included maps, satellite images, and intelligence data about U.S. allies. He posted these documents on the online platform Discord, thereby revealing sensitive information regarding the assessment of Russia's war against Ukraine. Among the information were details about military movements in Ukraine, as well as the supply of material and technical resources to Ukrainian forces.
“This former National Guard serviceman grossly betrayed our country and his oath to satisfy his ego and impress his friends,” stated FBI Special Agent Jodi Cohen.
Teixeira admitted his guilt and expressed that he understands the full responsibility and consequences of his actions. His lawyers argued in court that the defendant has autism spectrum disorders and has been socially isolated throughout his life. According to them, he did not intend to cause harm but merely wanted to inform his online friends about world events.
The U.S. Assistant Attorney sought nearly 17 years of imprisonment for Teixeira, while the defense attorneys argued for 11 years. The court found the serviceman guilty and sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
It is worth noting that the serviceman was arrested by the FBI in April 2023.
