In Sambir, Lviv region, two young children discovered a pneumatic rifle in their grandmother's storage room – a stray shot resulted in a 4-year-old girl being hospitalized with a head injury. Currently, her life is not in danger, and the circumstances of the incident are being investigated by the police.
As reported by the National Police of Lviv region on December 30, the incident occurred two days earlier, on December 28, in Sambir. Two young children – a 6-year-old boy and his 4-year-old cousin – found a pneumatic rifle while in their grandmother's house and began to play with it.
Unexpectedly, the rifle discharged, resulting in the girl sustaining a head injury. She is currently hospitalized and under medical supervision – there is no threat to her life.
The police confiscated the foreign-made pneumatic rifle, caliber 4.5 mm, and sent it for forensic examination. Investigators have opened a criminal proceeding under Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (willful neglect of duties related to the care of a child or a person under guardianship). The penalty for this article includes imprisonment for a term of two to five years or restriction of liberty for the same period. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
