Sony Pictures blames critics for the failure of its blockbusters.

In recent years, Sony Pictures has been releasing high-budget films that have consistently flopped at the global box office. This year, both "Madame Web" and "Kraven the Hunter" have shown extremely low box office returns, even lower than the underperforming film of 2022, "Morbius" ($163 million). Even the commercially successful "Venom" was not enough to compensate for all the studio's failures. The CEO of Sony Pictures, Tony Vinciquerra, has stated that critics are to blame for the studio's problems. He blames the press during an interview with the LA Times.

«"Madame Web" performed poorly at the box office because the press just crucified it. It was not a bad film. For some reason, the press decided they didn't want us to make these films with Kraven and Madame Web, and critics just destroyed them... These are not terrible films. They were simply annihilated by critics for some reason», Vinciquerra stated, believing that negative reviews have turned audiences away from Sony's blockbusters.
