In the Poltava region, an unknown man attacked a serviceman from the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TCRSS), shooting him with a shotgun and fleeing with a mobilized conscript. This was reported by the press service of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Saturday, February 1.
According to the Ground Forces, the attack occurred on February 1 at a gas station in the city of Pyryatyn while the serviceman was escorting conscripts to the 199th training center in Zhytomyr region. It should be noted that the 199th TC trains servicemen for the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“An unknown man in a gray balaclava and pixelated pants approached the serviceman from the Poltava TCRSS, threatening him with a hunting rifle and demanding his weapon. After receiving a refusal, the criminal shot the serviceman. As a result of the severe injury, the soldier died on the spot,” – stated the press service of the Ground Forces.
It is noted that after the attack, the man took the automatic weapon from the injured serviceman and fled with one of the mobilized conscripts who was also heading to the training center. Law enforcement officials are currently working at the scene, and a search for the criminal is underway.
“A special operation called ‘Siren’ has been launched in the Poltava region, with cooperation among military structures and law enforcement agencies from neighboring regions. The command of the Ground Forces expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased serviceman from the Poltava TCRSS and assures that his death will not go unpunished,” – reported the press service of the Ground Forces.
Servicemen have urged citizens to provide any information that may help locate the fugitives.
