On the night of January 1, 2025, Russian forces launched an attack on Ukraine using 111 strike drones of the "Shahed" type and other types of unmanned aerial vehicles from the directions of Bryansk, Oryol, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Crimea.
As reported by the Air Forces, air defense managed to shoot down 63 drones in Poltava, Sumy, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zaporizhzhia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Kirovohrad, and Mykolaiv regions. An additional 46 drones were lost to location tracking, while two returned to Russia and Belarus.
The attack by hostile drones affected Kyiv. Debris from the drones fell in the Pechersk and Sviatoshyn districts. Six people were injured, two of whom were hospitalized. Vehicles, garages, and tram tracks were damaged. In the Pechersk district, the remnants of a drone fell on the attic floor of a five-story residential building, causing a fire.
