An explosion occurred in the area of the Northern Fleet base in Murmansk, Russia. This base supports both surface ships and nuclear submarines.

According to Andriy Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, this base allows Russia to control Arctic maritime routes and access to the Arctic Ocean.

In total, Murmansk houses command centers, ammunition depots, repair docks, and fleet management points. Additionally, testing is conducted there, including for the "Zircon" missiles. The Northern Fleet's ships are carriers of "Kalibr" missiles, which Russia has been launching at Ukrainian territory throughout the war. This fleet also carries out reconnaissance tasks and counters NATO forces, focusing on the Arctic.
