The Jam Factory Art Center in Lviv is launching a film program.

The idea of showcasing films at the Jam Factory Art Center has been part of the institution's vision since its inception. We took this into account while planning our programs and spaces. Now, after more than a year of the art center being fully operational, we are excited to introduce screenings of significant Ukrainian and international films alongside our exhibition, theater, and music programs. Our goal is to broaden awareness of these films, cultivate a demand for quality cinema, and encourage dialogue,” shares Bohdana Pelenska, the program and executive director of the art center.

Weekly screenings are set to begin at the Jam Factory Art Center in Lviv, featuring new films, classic world cinema, and gems of Ukrainian film. The unique aspect of the film program is not only the selection of iconic films through a fresh perspective on Ukrainian and global cinematic heritage but also the discussions and presentations accompanying each film. To facilitate this, the art center plans to invite filmmakers, critics, and film scholars.

«The idea of showcasing films at Jam Factory Art Center has been part of the institution's vision from its inception. We took this into account when planning programs and spaces. After more than a year of fully operational activities alongside exhibition, theater, and music programs, we are launching screenings of important Ukrainian and international films to enhance knowledge about them, foster a demand for quality cinema, and encourage dialogue», – explains Bohdana Pelenska, the program and executive director of the art center.

The curator of the screenings is Daria Badiyor, a journalist, critic, co-curator of the "Kyiv Critics' Week" film festival, a member of the European Film Academy, and a member of the preparatory committee for the European Press Award.

«The film program at Jam Factory Art Center in 2025 is a conversation about the world around us, about our place in it, and about how cinema operates», – comments Daria Badiyor.

In collaboration with Ukrainian filmmakers, distributors, and film festivals, several programs will be developed. Daria Badiyor shares insights about the film selection:

  • «In the “Cult Classic” program, we will showcase beloved (or not) old films and discuss how our perceptions of them have changed, along with the evolution of the film world and beyond.
  • “New Classics” will feature more recent films that you may have seen not too long ago, but for which we would like to continue the conversation.
  • “Ukrainian Treasures” – a program made up of Ukrainian films from the Independence period, starting with the last decade, a time of renewed flourishing for our cinema».

Film screenings will take place every Friday in the "Auditorium" and will be shown in their original language with Ukrainian subtitles.

The film program kicks off with a screening of “The Zone of Interest”, which won two Oscars in 2024: for “Best International Feature Film” and “Best Sound.” The world premiere took place at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, where it received the Grand Prix, the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) prize, the award for Best Soundtrack, and the CST Artist-Technician Award.

In February, viewers will have the chance to watch and discuss films such as “Fragments of Ice,” “Portrait of a Lady on Fire,” “All Is Burning,” “Varta1. Lviv. Ukraine,” and “Vox Lux.”
