In Kalush, a truck driver was sentenced for fatally striking a woman at a crosswalk.

The defendant has been sentenced to one year of restricted freedom and has been deprived of the right to drive vehicles for three years.
В Калуше вынесли приговор водителю грузовика за наезд на женщину на пешеходном переходе, в результате которого она погибла.

The Kalush City District Court found the driver of LLC "Trans TK," Serhiy Masyakin, guilty of violating traffic rules, resulting in the death of the victim. For causing the accident that led to the death of a 38-year-old resident of Kalush, the native of Kirovohrad region was sentenced to one year of restriction of liberty and deprived of the right to drive vehicles for three years.

The verdict was delivered on December 23. The case pertains to an accident that occurred on May 1, 2024, on the Striy – Chernivtsi – Mamalyha highway in Kalush. Serhiy Masyakin, driving a Renault Magnum truck at a speed of 77 km/h, failed to brake in time and struck a woman at a pedestrian crossing. The 38-year-old resident of Kalush died from multiple injuries in the district hospital.

During the court hearing, the truck driver admitted his guilt, stating that he had compensated for the funeral expenses of the deceased and is currently transferring money to her husband if possible.

Meanwhile, the husband of the deceased stated in court that he is raising their four children alone after his wife's death and requested a strict punishment for the accused. The victim also filed a claim for moral damages amounting to 3 million UAH and 12 thousand UAH for legal assistance expenses.

After reviewing all the case materials, Judge Volodymyr Onushkanych found Serhiy Masyakin guilty of violating traffic rules that led to the victim's death and sentenced him to one year of restriction of liberty, along with a three-year ban on driving vehicles. The convicted individual is required to pay 354,000 UAH in damages to the victim and 16,600 UAH for conducting judicial examinations.
