The Pryshov District Court sentenced a resident of Chernivtsi to nine years in prison for blackmailing his ex-girlfriend and demanding $6,000 from her. The man consistently pressured the woman for money, threatening to reveal details of their shared life. He did not admit his guilt in court.
The police arrested the 62-year-old resident of the Chernivtsi region in September 2022. At that time, he had just received part of the amount – 20,000 UAH from his former partner. During the investigation, law enforcement discovered that the man had a romantic relationship with a familiar woman. After they broke up, he began threatening to disclose details about her private life.
“Initially, he demanded $12,000 from the victim. Later, he agreed to a sum of $6,000 for 'silence.' After the next installment of money was handed over, the man was apprehended by the police,” – reported the Bukovyna Prosecutor's Office on Wednesday, January 22.
Under public prosecution by Chernivtsi prosecutors, the Pryshov District Court found the 62-year-old man guilty of extortion on January 21. He was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment.
Additionally, four vehicles belonging to the extortionist were confiscated for state revenue. Until the verdict is legally binding, the convicted individual will remain in custody. An appeal can be filed against the sentence.
