“In modern politics, especially under Biden, among Democrats and globalists, there has been a trend to view foreign policy and domestic policy through the lens of values and the psychological qualities of individual politicians. For instance, Orban is seen as crazy and a friend of Moscow, while his interests in Hungary, or those of Fico, are deemed irrelevant,” notes Vadim Karasev.

Conversely, he explains, interests—meaning benefits—make it much easier to find a compromise, whereas values do not lend themselves to such negotiations. The expert cites Turkey as an example, where the values align with Muslim brothers, yet the interests lie in oil supplies to Israel.

“Trump is bringing back to global politics a register or regime of explanation and understanding of the struggle, advocating for a policy of interests rather than values. He is indifferent. Values or no values… The main interest is profit, a deal. The key word for Trump is ‘deal’,” emphasizes Vadim Karasev.

Therefore, he asserts, Kit Kellogg suggests listening to everyone and bringing them to the table—this is about interests, while values indicate that a victim will not negotiate with an aggressor. Yes, the expert adds, hostilities are ongoing, but diplomats should not operate in this manner; their job is precisely to prevent war or ensure its cessation, and for this, one must pursue interests—not values, which portray the enemy as absolute evil—but rather what each party wants.
