In 2024, the State Service for Quality of Education of Ukraine conducted 132 unplanned audits of general secondary education institutions across various regions. Most of the inspected schools require improvements in their educational environment and student assessment systems, while the pedagogical activities and management processes in over half of the institutions are deemed to be at an adequate level by the Service.

Each institution received a report on the quality of educational and management processes along with recommendations for enhancing their performance based on the results of the institutional audit.
Unplanned inspections can be initiated by school founders (local councils), administrators, or pedagogical councils. The basis for such inspections may include “threats that have a significant negative impact on the rights, legitimate interests, life, and health of individuals.” Additionally, a school with poor quality educational activities may undergo an unplanned audit.
The inspections revealed that 60% of schools need to improve their educational environment – including learning spaces and the overall atmosphere within the institution. The same percentage of institutions have an inadequate system for assessing student performance. Furthermore, 67% of schools were advised to enhance inclusivity conditions.
