The first three upgraded Dassault Aviation Mirage 2000-5F fighters are set to arrive in Ukraine by January 2025. The aircraft are being transferred from the stocks of the French Air and Space Forces and are modified to perform tasks for the Ukrainian Air Force.
This information is reported by Avions Legendaires.
In total, Ukraine will receive up to ten of these combat machines. The transfer of the Mirage 2000-5F has been made possible through agreements between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron. These aircraft are part of France's key military aid package, alongside Caesar artillery systems and AMX-10RC armored vehicles.
As part of the modernization program, French specialists have equipped the fighters with the capability to deploy SCALP-EG and Storm Shadow cruise missiles. This significantly enhances the combat capabilities of the aircraft, enabling precise strikes on targets at long distances.
The first three aircraft are expected to arrive in Ukraine by January 20, 2025. Some sources suggest that they may already be on Ukrainian territory conducting training flights. The Mirage 2000-5F will become the second "Western" fighter in the Air Force, following the American F-16s.
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that in June of this year, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the French government would supply Ukraine with Mirage 2000-5F fighter jets. Designed for "air-to-air" engagements, they initially lacked the capability to strike "ground" targets. However, it has recently been revealed that the French "Mirages" delivered to Ukraine will be transformed to acquire "air-to-ground" configuration.
