The U.S. Department of the Treasury has announced the allocation of $3.4 billion in direct budget support for Ukraine.
This information was shared in a statement by U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.
“Our direct budget support for Ukraine comes at a critical moment as Russia intensifies its attacks on Ukrainian civilians and critical infrastructure,” Yellen noted.
According to her, economic assistance from the United States and its allies is “crucial for Ukraine's ability to defend its sovereignty and achieve a just peace by ensuring the critical government services that support its brave struggle.”
This package for Ukraine is being provided in coordination with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the State Department. “This $3.4 billion assistance represents the final disbursement of funds allocated under the bipartisan Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024,” the Secretary reported.
She emphasized that direct budget support is contingent upon reforms related to strengthening law enforcement, enhancing transparency and efficiency in government institutions, and bolstering anti-corruption rules and procedures.
It is noted that Ukraine's success is a core national interest of the United States. “Stopping Russia's unlawful invasion will help uphold the global rules-based democratic order, which will advance the security and economic interests of the U.S., and send an unmistakable message to autocrats and potential aggressors worldwide that they will face unwavering resolve,” the statement reads.
