The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden is expected to announce a new military aid package for Ukraine in the coming days. This was reported on Friday, December 27, by John Kirby, the White House National Security Communications Advisor, according to Voice of America.
According to Kirby, the new security package will include weapons to enhance the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, specifically in battles against North Korean troops, as well as to protect Ukrainian cities and villages from Russian missile and drone attacks. The White House advisor noted that Russians continue to attack Ukraine's energy infrastructure to complicate the heating situation for Ukrainians.
“The new security assistance package from the United States, approved by the president, will certainly include air defense systems for Ukraine to help them repel these attacks, as well as assist them in battles in Kursk and its surroundings to fend off these North Korean waves, and continue their defensive operations against the Russians in the east, where the Russians continue to demand some progress,” Kirby said.
According to information from the Associated Press, which spoke with unnamed U.S. officials, the U.S. plans to provide Ukraine with a new large military aid package valued at $1.25 billion. This is expected to take place on Monday, December 30.
The upcoming security package is reported to include a significant number of munitions for the NASAMS air defense systems and the HAWK air defense system. Ukrainian defenders will also receive Stinger missiles and artillery shells of 155 mm and 105 mm calibers.
