Co-owners of the IT company SoftServe, Taras Kytmeyi, Yaroslav Lyubynets, Oleg Denys, and co-owner of the dairy farm "Mukko," Mykola Kmit, have purchased the ski resort "Plai" in Lviv Oblast. This was reported by Forbes on December 28.
Previously, the "Plai" resort near the village of Plavye belonged to Mykhailo Vatagovych. The new owners acquired the resort in September 2024. Mykola Kmit told reporters that his share in the business is 20%, while the rest is distributed among the partners, but he declined to disclose their exact shares.
The "Plai" complex features two chairlifts and a drag lift, as well as a separate children's slope. The total length of the ski trails is 5 km. The resort has three hotels accommodating 300 guests, a motel, and cottages, along with five restaurants, a spa center, two outdoor swimming pools, a conference complex, an indoor sports and entertainment complex, a ski school, bowling, and more. There is also a museum and a church on the premises.
The new owners have not disclosed the transaction amount, but according to Forbes, the resort could be valued at $10-15 million. This is an approximate cost of land and property, excluding investments in equipment.
According to Taras Kytmeyi, new equipment has been purchased for snowmaking on the slopes. With the right technology, snow can last for 100 days—from December to March. The goal for this season is to launch skiing, and later to make family recreation year-round and introduce wellness programs.
An additional investment of 400 million UAH will be required at the resort, primarily to create a lake for snowmaking on the slopes. Additional electricity needs to be brought to the resort, the length of the trails needs to be increased from 5 to 30 km, and the number of hotels needs to be expanded.
“We want the resort to achieve high capitalization; for that, we need 400-500 rooms,” Mykola Kmit explained.
Additionally, it should be noted that the construction of the Plai ski resort in Lviv Oblast began in 2006. At that time, the first cable car was installed, near which a ski rental point and ticket offices were built. The first ski season at "Plai" commenced in the winter of 2006-2007. In 2007, a 400-meter drag lift was built for beginners. A new four-seat chairlift was inaugurated during the 2009-2010 ski season.
