The Skole District Court of the Lviv region has issued a verdict against serviceman Andriy H., the commander of a special forces unit, for his involvement in a street shooting. The serviceman was found guilty of hooliganism involving the use of firearms and received a suspended sentence.
According to the case materials, the incident occurred on the evening of August 19 of this year at a parking lot near the recreation complex "Horytsvit Residence" in the village of Oryavchik in Skole. Andriy H., who was intoxicated, got into a conflict with three men who made comments to him. As a result, the serviceman pulled out a service weapon – a Glock 17 pistol loaded with live ammunition – and fired 11 shots in the direction of his opponents. He was subsequently detained by the police.
During the court session, the accused admitted his guilt. He explained that he was on leave and was resting with his girlfriend at the mentioned recreation complex. He also stated that the severe breach of public order was provoked by an alcoholic beverage of unknown origin that local residents had offered him, which he had never consumed before.
Judge Volodymyr Mykytyn found Andriy H. guilty of hooliganism involving the use of firearms (part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced him to three years in prison. However, the court's verdict suspended the main punishment, establishing a probation period of one and a half years. An appeal against the verdict may still be filed.
