At the "Krakiwets" border crossing in Lviv region, the Security Service of Ukraine detained a spotter from Dnipro who was attempting to leave the country. It is known that he adjusted a Russian strike on an enterprise, resulting in the deaths of six people. This was reported on Wednesday, January 22, by the SBU press service.
The detainee is a well-known lawyer in Dnipro. According to the SBU, he provided the Russians with the coordinates of a company that modernizes and repairs strike and reconnaissance drones.
“To inflict maximum damage, he provided the FSB not just with general coordinates of the enterprise, but with precise location marks of the technological workshops and storage facilities for UAVs,” the statement said.
In December 2023, Russian military forces, using the coordinates provided by the detainee, struck Dnipro. As a result of the attack, six people died, and another 30 sustained injuries. Civil infrastructure facilities also suffered damage due to the shelling.
“According to the case materials, the traitor reported to his Russian handlers about the consequences of the ‘arrival’ and sent coordinates of another strategic object located in the city for further shelling in Dnipro,” the SBU stated.
Investigators established that the detained spotter maintained contact with a Russian handler through an acquaintance who holds the position of first deputy head of the Krasnogvardeysk district administration in occupied Crimea.
The SBU apprehended the spotter at the "Krakiwets" border crossing in Lviv region while he was trying to flee Ukraine. During searches of his residence and workplace, investigators seized mobile phones and SIM cards containing evidence of his subversive activities in favor of the Russians.
The detainee has been charged with treason and justifying armed aggression by Russia (Part 2 of Article 111, Part 2 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The suspect faces life imprisonment and asset confiscation. He is currently in custody.
