The Security Service of Ukraine apprehended a resident of Ivano-Frankivsk who set fire to a military vehicle in exchange for a top-up to his online casino account. The perpetrator faces up to 10 years in prison for his actions.
As reported by the SBU Office in the Ivano-Frankivsk region on December 23, the 36-year-old local had previously been held administratively responsible for petty theft. In late August 2024, he learned from a friend about the opportunity to profit from arson of military vehicles.
“On the instructions of a curator, with whom the friend communicated via a popular messenger, the criminals doused a military-green hatchback with gasoline and set it on fire in one of the courtyards of the regional center. Meanwhile, the suspect recorded video evidence of the arson to send to the client,” law enforcement officials reported.
For destroying the vehicle, the local received a reward of 5,000 hryvnias credited to his online casino account. The arsonist and his accomplice have been arrested. For the intentional destruction of someone else's property by arson, they face up to 10 years in prison.
