A driver who fatally struck a woman and fled the accident scene has been sent to pre-trial detention by a court in Mykolaiv.

The investigating judge of the Central District Court of Mykolaiv has considered the application for a preventive measure against a 46-year-old man suspected of committing criminal offenses under Part 2 of Article 286 and Part 1 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violating traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by individuals in control, resulting in the death of the victim;

According to the materials of the application, the man, while driving a car in the Malaya Korenikha area, hit a woman who was walking along the right edge of the lane in the same direction.

After that, without stopping the vehicle, he left the scene of the accident. As a result of the accident, the woman sustained injuries and died on the spot.

The suspect admitted his guilt during the court session and requested a preventive measure not involving detention. His attorney supported his client's position.

After hearing the opinions of the parties and examining the materials of the application, the investigating judge concluded that the suspicion was justified and that there were risks of evading the investigation and court proceedings and influencing witnesses.

Consequently, the investigating judge decided to apply a preventive measure in the form of detention with a bail amount set at 242,240 hryvnias.
