The administration of the Moscow-controlled region of Moldova, Transnistria, has halted power outages and started restoring heating in apartments. Thus, after a month, the supply of natural gas, financed by the European Union, has been resumed.

This was reported by Reuters.

Transnistria had remained dependent on Russian gas transported through Ukraine; however, Kyiv refused to extend the transit agreement after the New Year, stating that it contributes to financing the Russian invasion.

On February 1, the Moldovan energy company "Moldovagaz" made its first delivery of natural gas amounting to 3 million cubic meters.

"Currently, the priority is to launch the heating system," said Vadim Krasnoselsky, the so-called "president" of the self-proclaimed Transnistria, to reporters.

According to him, it is necessary to increase the temperature in the central heating system to provide warmth to the residents. "Rolling blackouts have ceased," he added.

Krasnoselsky expressed gratitude to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for allocating 64 million euros to finance the gas supply.

He also thanked Moldovan specialists for overseeing the gas supply, which helped avoid a complete loss of pressure in the pipeline system.

The residents of the region, with a population of 350,000, have experienced relief thanks to the return to normal life. In this area, so-called Russian "peacekeepers" have remained for over three decades following a brief conflict between Transnistria and the newly independent Moldova.

Background. Earlier, Mind reported that Moldova would lend 3 million cubic meters of gas to Transnistria. The costs will be covered by an EU grant.
