On the evening of Sunday, November 17, Russian occupiers launched a ballistic missile strike on residential buildings in Sumy. The enemy projectile hit a 9-story residential building, resulting in casualties and injuries, reported the Sumy regional prosecutor's office.

Approximately at 20:40, the occupiers struck a densely populated district of Sumy. A fire broke out at the impact site, damaging at least 10 nearby high-rise buildings.

“As a result of the enemy's attack, as of 22:00, it is known that 8 people have died, including one child, and another 10 local residents have been injured,” the press service of the prosecutor's office reported. Later, the Sumy Regional Military Administration reported 10 fatalities, including a 9-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl.

According to correspondents from “Suspilne,” at least 49 people sustained injuries due to the attack on the residential building in Sumy. The press service of the Sumy Regional Military Administration stated that over 400 residents were evacuated from the affected building.

In connection with the Russian attack, law enforcement has initiated criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war combined with intentional murder). Search and rescue operations are ongoing at the site. Further information is being clarified.

Updated on November 18 at 10:00. The Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that as of 08:00, the death toll from the attack has risen to 11. A total of 84 people have suffered varying degrees of injuries, including 11 children. 11 residents are in intensive care, among them 6 children.
