Russians have damaged the Kurakhiv Reservoir dam, leading to rising water levels being reported.

Currently, the dam cannot be inspected due to ongoing shelling.
Россияне повредили дамбу Куроховского водохранилища, фиксируется повышение уровня воды.

On Monday, November 11, Russian propaganda channels began reporting the destruction of the Ternivska dam at the Kurakhiv Reservoir in the Donetsk region. The Kurakhiv City Military Administration confirmed a rise in water levels; however, the extent of the damage to the dam could not be verified due to ongoing shelling, reported "Suspilne". Later, the head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, Vadym Filashkin, confirmed the damage to the dam.

In a conversation with journalists, the head of the Kurakhiv City Military Administration, Roman Padun, stated that water levels near the settlements close to the Ternivska dam had begun to rise. Preliminary reports indicate that the water is encroaching upon the villages and towns of the Velikonovosilkivska community.

“We cannot confirm the nature of the damage or its criticality. We are unable to inspect the dam due to ongoing shelling at this time,” – reported Roman Padun.

The local publication "Novyny Donbasu," citing its own sources, reported that water levels in the river Vovcha adjacent to the dam have risen by at least one meter. However, flooding in the nearby settlements has not yet been recorded.

It should be noted that Russian propaganda Telegram channels began spreading information about the explosion of the Kurakhiv dam and released images allegedly showing its destruction. However, the images circulated by the occupiers do not depict the Ternivska dam, nor even the Kurakhiv Reservoir – social media has shared photos of one of the dams at the Kyiv Reservoir, which was damaged at the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

Updated. The head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, Vadym Filashkin, officially confirmed the damage to the Kurakhiv dam, stating that it was caused by Russian occupiers. As of 4:00 PM on November 11, the water level in the river has risen by 1.2 meters.

“This strike potentially poses a threat to residents of settlements along the Vovcha River – both in Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions,” – reported Vadym Filashkin.

The Kurakhiv Reservoir is located on the Vovcha River in the Pokrovsk region, where Russian forces are attempting to advance. It was created for cooling the Kurakhiv Thermal Power Plant, which began operations in 1941, and in the summer of 2024, was dismantled for parts to be used in the repair of other facilities amid mass Russian shelling of energy infrastructure. The area of the reservoir is approximately 16 km², its length is 40 km, and its total water volume is 62.5 million m³.
