On the evening of January 22 and the night of January 23, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Zaporizhzhia. Both energy and residential facilities in the city were struck.
This was reported by the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov, during a telethon.
The attack began at 21:50. The occupiers launched several "Shahed" drones, six of which hit an energy facility, while another targeted an industrial area. Later, Fedorov clarified that the energy facility was completely destroyed.
Due to the damage to infrastructure, 21,000 subscribers were left without electricity, including critical infrastructure facilities such as hospitals, heating plants, and administrative buildings. An additional 17,000 subscribers were deprived of heating.
At 02:00 AM, four hours after the initial attack, the Russians struck again. This time, four rockets were launched at Zaporizhzhia, with the type currently being determined.
According to Fedorov, the rockets reached their targets just three and a half minutes after the air raid alert was declared. The strikes targeted the same energy facility where rescuers were working at the time.
Background. As a result of the rocket attack, rescue workers from the State Emergency Service were injured while dealing with the aftermath of the previous shelling. Several residential buildings were also damaged, one of which was nearly completely destroyed.
As of the morning, there are reports of 24 injured individuals, including a two-month-old baby. One man has died.
