The Verkhovna Rada has adopted as a basis the draft law No. 9495 "On the Protection of Childhood" concerning the rights of deported and forcibly displaced children. A total of 248 deputies voted in favor.

Nardep Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported this information.

The draft clarifies the concepts of deportation and forced displacement of children:

  • Child deportation is the illegal transfer of a child to the territory of an aggressor state or its allies without the consent of the child and their legal representatives.
  • Forced displacement refers to the transfer of a child from the territory of Ukraine to temporarily occupied territories or an aggressor state without the child's consent.

It is anticipated that the procedure for the return, reintegration, and adaptation of deported children will be determined by the Cabinet of Ministers.

The document does not take into account children who will return to Ukraine after turning 18.

Background. Earlier, Mind reported that French lawyers addressed the ICC demanding to prosecute other individuals involved in the deportation of children from Ukraine. The lawyers, who previously succeeded in obtaining warrants for Putin and Lvova-Belova, are also confident in the successful execution of their new complaint, which is significantly broader.
