Law enforcement officers uncovered an organized crime group led by officials from the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) who embezzled 2.2 million UAH during the renovation of a lyceum and school shelters.
This was reported by the press service of the National Police.
“To carry out the scheme involving budget funds, they purchased necessary materials and equipment for the renovation work at inflated prices through a private entrepreneur – one of the employees of the contracting company,” the statement reads.
According to police data, later during the scheduled works, the individuals involved submitted false information in the reporting documentation regarding the cost of the construction materials used, the volume of work, and their quality.
“The illegally obtained funds were converted into cash by one of the group members and handed over to the organizer of the scheme – an official from KCSA – for distribution among all members of the criminal group,” the National Police clarified.
On January 22, law enforcement conducted 8 searches at the residences of the suspects and other involved individuals. As a result of these actions, computer equipment, mobile phones, documentation, and rough notes were seized.
It is noted that among the individuals involved are the deputy director and head of a department of one of the KCSA Departments, the deputy director of a specialized educational institution, as well as the head of a construction company and his subordinates.
Based on the collected evidence, six members of the organized group – officials from one of the Departments of the Kyiv City State Administration, the deputy director of a sports boarding school, as well as an entrepreneur and representatives of the construction contracting firm – were notified of suspicion under part 3 of article 28 and part 5 of article 191 (“Embezzlement, misappropriation of property, or acquisition of property through abuse of office”) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
